The Darren Collection
In February we showed at the Spring Fair. One of the new designs was Sam's "Picardy". One of our customers, Janet Wingham of Claris's, noticed that if you turned Picardy upside-down you saw a technicoloured penguin. Darren Ellis, who had the stand across from ours selling pot pourri, made a big thing of this, constantly turning the plates to show people. I told him we would bring it out as a range and call it Darren, the Puzzled Penguin from Picardy, which we have done. After overcoming some practical issues Darren has his satin black background and a star has been born. Funky, funny and aesthetically pleasing, Darren has become a firm favourite.
HOT COALS by Anita Harris
The heat can almost be felt from this astounding design from Anita,capturing the very essence of fireglow both visually and emotionally. The metallic crackled bronze finish is perfectly balanced in yet another brilliant artistic adventure from this remarkable designer.
PICARDY by Sam Johnson
Not only is this an extraordinary Sam Johnson design of great depth and pleasing composition, it also gave birth to Darren, the Puzzled Penguin from Picardy! The church and buildings nestle in the safety of sweeping hills together with soaring poplars, unmistakably French, wonderful perspective, stunning colours.
TREE FROG by Anita Harris
This sensational foray into the third dimension involved Anita, Larry, Sam and the renowned sculptor Charles Skilton. The dramatic results more than repaid a long and painstaking artistic and technical journey to this exciting destination.
